This was an uncharacteristic miss for Marriott. We stayed one night at this property before meeting up with the rest of our group in another part of the island. We arrived late and night and had a long walk to the reception area. All of the food options were long since closed (which was not a big deal) but the guy checking us in said, as a one-time courtesy he'd "let" us take a bottle of water for free (for an $800 a night hotel room!) After another long haul, my son and I opened up the door to our room and were suprrised to see NO BED. It was a very shabby room that didn't look particularly clean (hair in the sink, etc.) We had booked a queen ocean-view room so were surprised to see the bed was a murphy bed we had to pull down and assemble ourselves. I almost cried when we crawled into the bed and saw visible bed bugs in the seams at the edge of the duvet and mattress. (We left our suitcases zipped across the room and later washed everything so as not to take the bugs home with us.) I was gobsmacked by the price of the room for the condition of the property and the room. We spent almost 20 minutes in line just to grab a coffee the next morning. The most shocking part was that when I very tactfully and quietly mentioned bedbugs at checkout, the woman helping us just shrugged and said she'd "let housekeeping know." She was completely nonplussed. There was no apology or any effort to make it right. Even my 10-year old said, "That was the worst hotel we've ever stayed in."
