"Shangri-La is not located in the center of Kota Kinabalu but it is surrounded in the beautiful nature and worth staying. We had booked a nice room in the Ocean view part of the hotel. Restaurant called Oceano, had really good food and service and we ended up eating breakfast, lunch and dinner there. Food and staff lead by Charlie took very good care of us and made us feel really welcome. "we stayed here for one night,before visiting the orang utan the next morning. location is next to the orang utan plc and that's it.nothing else in the neighbourhood,unless u drive 30-45 mins to sandakan city. the only restaurant in the property close at 9pm so after you are basically trapped in the room. its not safe to even walk in the property at night,its dark and we are in the jungle. the property needsTLC maintenance,its run down. the pool close at 5pm but i will not use the pool,its...

"Nice room and very nice staff. Very limited area to swim and only one restaurant on the island that serves quite bad food."

"The Borneo Eagle is an exclusive five star hotel - newly launched. The staff are excellent, facilities good - the only issue we had was the plethora of sand flies which caused a lot of issues sitting outside. We talked to the Manager about this and understand a machine is being shipped to deal with this issue - also the beach on the offside of the hotel was covered with plastic bottles and rubbish, which should be cleared on a daily basis to support the high quality nature of the hotel."

"Great place with nice rooms and beautiful view (both to Mt Kinabalu and Kota Kinabalu). Standard Malaysian breakfast and decent lunch and dinner menu. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The room (104) was very good although there are a few ants around (so make sure not to leave food around). Bed, shower and toilet were nice and clean. Internet worked quite well (not guaranteed in this area). Our best place in Sabah so far (out of 6 good hotels)."
