Sauze d\'Oulx showing mountains
This pretty mountain village offers wintersports and other outdoor activities in an idyllic woodland setting.

With untouched forests, breathtaking views across Monte Genevris and a charming historic centre, Sauze d’Oulx makes a great Alpine getaway for all seasons. Spend a day carving up the slopes or biking along downhill trails then head into town for a delicious Italian dining experience.

As the closest major mountain resort to Turin, Sauze d’Oulx provides a fantastic escape from the city at any time of the year. Go in winter to enjoy some of the region’s best powder. The resort is located on the Via Lattea mountain range, which has more than 248 miles (400 kilometres) of marked pistes.

Rent skis or a snowboard in town and hit the slopes. Learn the basics from an experienced instructor during a lesson on a gentle nursery run. Ride a lift up to more challenging slopes and speed down the mountain independently. Intermediate skiers will have an array of runs available to them with 62 percent of the marked slopes graded as red.

In addition to the well-maintained slopes, off-piste options and cross-country runs can be found in the surrounding areas. Weave along winding trails and through fields surrounded by snow-covered trees.Visit during the fine summer months when the snow has melted and the pistes are transformed into mountain-biking trails. A network of picturesque walking trails lead through Alpine pastures and ancient forests.

After a day on your feet, return to the village to rest and recoup. Wander along the narrow cobbled streets and choose between the many high-quality restaurants. Eat fresh pasta and wood-fired pizza for dinner, then finish off the night with a glass of fine wine or a fruity cocktail in one of the bustling bars. The town is known for its lively après-ski scene.

To reach Sauze d’Oulx, fly into the airport in nearby Turin. From there, it’s less than a 90-minute drive west to to the town where outdoor adventures and picturesque surroundings await.

"Lovely, quiet, tons of space. Cows grazing in the backyard which we watched from the deck. Be aware there are no restaurants so get groceries before to cook in the full kitchen. Luckily we found a food truck"

Plenty of bars & restaurants to choose with a variety of prices. Village is very hilly - bus runs a circular route. Third visit to the area and would go back.

Sauze ski area is great, some of our favourite runs were in this area and the lift system is good. One thing to consider is that you are at the far end of the Via Lattea ski area which makes it difficult to get to Montgenevre at the opposite end.
