Bournemouth Pavillion Theatre

Treat yourself to a night of early 20th-century-style grandeur at this opulent and historic theater, where you can see everything from dramas to concerts.

The Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre has all the features you would expect from a traditional performance venue that dates back to the early 20th century. Expect red velvet chairs, splendid high ceilings and lots of gold detailing when you come to see a show here.

The theater has been open since the 1920s, and although it was renovated in 2007, it retains its classic art deco charm. Today, the theater hosts famous West-End musicals and performances by well-known comedians. It is also home to the Pavilion Youth Theater, a theater company and acting class for children aged between six and 16.

The building can host over a thousand seated audience members, and for certain shows, such as concerts, close to 450 more will be able to stand.

Book your tickets for a performance well in advance. Despite its relatively large capacity, big-name shows at the theater sell out quickly.

Choose from a regularly changing line-up of shows that is likely to include anything from opera and ballet to stand-up comedy, live music and pantomime. Some of the shows are local, while many are already popular in London or globally.

The theater also hosts events such as corporate functions, conferences, fashion shows and dances from time to time. Make your way to the elegant ballroom to enjoy one of these non-performance events. In some cases, they may also be held in one of the two breakout rooms, the Lucullus Room and the Committee Room. Note how, although set up primarily for corporate functions, both rooms feature the red velvet upholstery and gilt details that bring 1920s glamor to the rest of the building.

Find the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre at the southern end of the town center, around a 20-minute walk from the main train station. It is easy to locate just make your way to the sea and head west. The combination of old-fashioned opulence and beautiful sea views makes this a wonderful sight to walk past, whether or not you are on your way to see a show.
