Jumeirah Mosque

Jumeirah Mosque

See inside an Islamic house of worship and learn about Islam with a guided tour of a well-known Dubai mosque.

Pick up insights into the Islamic faith and Emirati culture with a tour of Jumeirah Mosque, one of the few mosques in the United Arab Emirates to open to non-Muslims. With its twin minarets and the ornate carvings of its domes, the mosque is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city.

The tours are organised by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding as part of its “Open doors. Open minds” programme that aims to break down barriers between different cultural groups.

Bring your camera with you because photography is allowed inside the mosque and the interior is stunning. The tour starts in the area where feet are washed prior to praying, and then moves to the prayer hall. This is where you will stay for the majority of your visit.

Observe the beautiful decorations on the Qibla wall, also known as the prayer wall, that faces Mecca, the direction Muslims pray toward. At its centre is the Mihrab, the semicircular prayer niche that denotes the exact praying direction. This is the holiest part of the mosque.

The tour lasts for about 75 minutes and includes a talk about the Islamic faith and life as an Emirati. This is followed by a short, informal session when you can ask questions and learn more about the Islamic faith and culture.

Jumeirah Mosque is open to the public for guided tours every day except Friday. There’s no need to make a reservation, but you must arrive at least 15 minutes before the tour starts. Note that there are strict rules about clothing. Short skirts and short pants are not permitted and women must wear headscarves. If your clothes are too revealing, you will be provided with appropriate attire. Shoes must also be left outside before entering the mosque.

Jumeirah Mosque is situated at the northern end of the Jumeirah Beach Road, opposite the Palm Strip Mall, and is served by buses and the metro. If you are going to drive there is a car park in front of the mosque that charges for parking.
