"The hospitality (service and meals) at Shiganoyu Hotel were amazing. While we did not speak Japanese and the staff did not speak English, they used a translation tool for conversation and didn't let that be a barrier. "A great base to visit the snow monkeys. A beautiful and traditional onsen. The breakfast and dinner was served by older ladies that did not necessarily speak English but definitely kept trying to make it an amazing experience each time. The variety of the served food was just overwhelming. So delicious and always something freshly cooked right at your table. An opportunity to stay at traditional Japanese tatami room is a memorable experience. Free pick up from the railway station. "

"The area around the property was absolutely beautiful and charming - but maybe because of the time of year we visited (1/06-1/08), very few places were open, despite their signs claiming what their hours of operation were. Even when we found a restaurant that was open at 6pm for dinner, multiple restaurants turned us away because we have a six year old daughter and they didn't accept kids. It was pretty upsetting to my daughter, but the area was absolutely beautiful."

Great hotel in Shibu Onsen

"Loved our stay at Shibu Onsen Kokuya and would highly recommend. They made the trip into the mountains and to see the snow monkeys very easy - with transfers included and bag drop to the station. The traditional dinner and breakfast were a great experience. Also loved the variety of onsen’s available within the hotel itself - and private Onsen with your room if you want! "
