Experience the many facets of Indonesian culture all in one place at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park). This 250-acre (100-hectare) entertainment and recreational park provides a compact version of the nation’s architecture, geography, lifestyles and traditions. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah also has amusement attractions, museums, theaters and restaurants.
Start your visit with a stroll around the central lake, which houses a scale model of Indonesia’s archipelago. Rent a paddleboat or rowboat for a close-up view of the many islands and islets. Surrounding the lake are 27 pavilions representing the typical architecture of each of the country’s provinces. Step inside the pavilions to see displays of traditional costumes, find examples of hunting tools, sample regional cuisine and watch dance and music shows.
Find a collection of sacred buildings such as Christian churches, Buddhist and Hindu temples and a mosque. These highlight the harmony and tolerance of religious beliefs of the Indonesian people.
Explore Indonesian plants while wandering amid themed gardens. Admire hundreds of varieties of orchids, cacti, jasmine and medicinal flowers. Spot eagles, hornbills, parrots and peacocks, among other birds, in the walk-through aviary. Come face-to-face with a Komodo dragon in the reptile park.
Browse artifacts that showcase the nation’s art and ethnography at the Indonesian Museum. It’s one of over a dozen museums located in the park. Watch 3-D movies about the archipelago’s natural beauty at the Keong Emas IMAX Theater. Have fun on the waterslides at SnowBay Waterpark. Enjoy a meal or snack at the cafés, restaurants and warungs, which are small food kiosks.
The park is about a 40-minute drive south from Jakarta’s city center. The most convenient way to get here is via taxi. Cars are allowed inside the park so consider renting the services of a private driver for the day. Take an air-powered monorail, cable car or toy train for transportation to different areas of the park.
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is open daily and has an admission fee. Fees are also applicable for some of the individual attractions. Visit on a weekday to avoid large crowds.
