"This property has no staff onsite. So you have no ability to leave luggage before check in or after checkout, so you have to use the lockers at the train station. Email on entry was confusing and required a call. I observed similar struggles with other guests. Checkin is all via keypad. Room was a nice size, had a kitchen, and sitting area (cushions were stained). Location to the train station was nice, but it is not bar any hot springs or other attractions. "

"pros : cheap and clean cons : • this was by far my worst experience in Japan during my one month stay. When I booked (one day before my planned check-in), the manager demanded to know at what time I was planning to check in. I was surprised but happily obliged and gave him/her the precise time (4 pm). "Very special property that we loved. We stayed in January and esp loved the onsen and subfloor heating. Check in was easy enough because there was the option of online pre-registration. The road to the house was windy but not too bad - note that the GPS in the rental car may not show you the way. We used Google maps and got there without difficulty. We were thankful to have a 4WD and snow tires, because there was ice on parts of the road. Highly recommend the place!"

"We enjoyed our stay at Hoteiya. The staff were kind, knowledgeable, and very attentive. There was a shuttle to and from the Yufuin JR station that was an easy phone call to arrange. The facilities were sparkling clean. We liked the different bathing areas. We didn't have dinner but we loved the breakfasts, which were different every day. The town of Yufuin is breathtaking. It has interesting tourist destinations and good food. Aside from spending time in the onsen, our favorite part of this trip was visiting neighboring Beppu, which was easy to access via the bus stop in front of the resort. Altogether, we had an amazing time and hope to return someday."

"Stayed overnight on a weekend trip to Yufuin. This accommodation is a gem of a place. The staff are very attentive and are present from check in to check out, whether arriving early to drop off your bags, in the restaurants or for the hot baths. They have private and public baths. The public baths are open all day 6am to 2 am, the private mornings and evenings just past midnight. You can book the private bath for your own party for 50 minutes. I had it all to myself. The breakfast and dinner are traditional Japanese and are delicious. Overall a great stay, highly recommended."
