What you can expect

Tlacotalpan is a town and municipality in the southeastern state of Veracruz within Papaloapan Basin, Mexico. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, it is known for its fishing tradition.

We’ll depart heading towards the lovely city of Tlacotalpan. Along the way the tour guide will talk about the folklore, the tourist attractions, regional customs and older times. We’ll pass by the port of Alvarado (no stopping).

When you arrive in Tlacotalpan you’ll appreciate the cultural aspects of Veracruz, such as the traditional Jarocha dress, in all its stages throughout the different epochs, and the history of the guitar, the jarana, the harp and other instruments. We’ll visit the Veracruz museum of Salvador Ferrando, which has innumerable artefacts on display, such as European and tlacotalpeño furnishings dating from the 16th through the 19th centuries.

Tlacotalpan was declared “Mankind’s Cultural Patri-mony” by UNESCO for its beautiful landscape, the Tlacotalpan style, hand-icrafts, and the most beautiful and traditional clothing and architecture to be found in the state.

There is also a public cultural centre, where you can find out about the life of the famous Veracruz composer, Agustín Lara and see a permanent exhibition by the impresionist artist Alberto Fuster, whose works include “The Rebel Series”, “Christ on the Cross”, “Saint Sebastian y Prometheus”; bronze sculptures by the sculptor. There is also a magnificent theatre called “Netzahualcoyotl”, that will be visited. Between the natural wonders that you will find in Tlacotalpan, you will feel the essential physical beauty that characterises our state and the rivers that run by like the Papaloapan (river of the butterflies) and to top it off you can enjoy fine cuisine in a number of restaurants.
